Separation

Cyclone Separators, Slug Catchers, Knock-out Drums

Cyclone separators, slug catchers and knock-out drums are inertial impaction devices used to remove liquid or solid particles from gases or vapours.

All rely on imposing a change in direction to the gas stream, forcing the heavier material to spin to an outer wall or into a drop-out area of the vessel.Removal efficiency of the particulate or aerosol is largely influenced by the cyclone or vessel geometry.

Foam Breakers

The Lundberg systems' foam breaker is a single stage centrifuge used to mechanically deaerate stable and highly viscous foams. Rugged in construction, the foam breaker uses a precisely balanced, high rpm disk bowl mounted between bearings to break foam. Foam breakers are available in two configurations: the Skumslaker model is designed for lighter foams and the Concentrator model is designed for heavier foams, removing the maximum possible residual air from the soap prior to soap acidulation.

Mist Eliminators

The mist eliminator is also an inertial impaction device used to remove liquid droplets from gas streams. Various types are offered including chevron vane types, mesh pads, and vane types with coalescing mesh pads. Fouling services can be accommodated through the use of hookless vane designs.

Decanters

The decanter and storage tank is used where it is necessary to remove an immiscible lower density fluid from another higher density fluid. The decanter is sized to provide sufficient residence time for the immiscible fluid to separate, then be skimmed off and stored.

Flash Tanks

Flash tanks are designed to decrease the temperature of a hot fluid by flashing the fluid down to a lower pressure or vacuum. The units can be designed to flash anything from clean steam condensate to an aqueous or organic solution containing a large amount of fouling solids.

Strainers and Filters

Chemical filters are used to remove suspended contaminants from an aqueous, organic or gaseous stream in order to produce a higher purity product. Vessel geometry can be as simple as a single vessel with a metal screen or Porostone ceramic filter sleeve, or be arranged as a multiple vessel system with automatic switchover and backwash. Continuous and intermittent automatic backwash arrangements are also available.
