Concentrators and Crystallizers

A.H. Lundberg Systems offers evaporative distillation processes to meet the industry need to recover and re-use contaminated water (brines) discharged by industrial processes. Our falling film evaporation systems provide high efficiency separation and recovery of the bulk of the water in the brine feed, while our flooded forced circulation systems (crystallizers) can concentrate strong brine to near-zero liquid discharge conditions, if this is necessary.

Applications include:

Evaporators with Mechanical Vapour Re-compression

Where low pressure steam is not available, A.H. Lundberg Systems offers single effect falling film concentrators with mechanical vapour re-compression to power the evaporation process. Although "starting steam" is required to start the evaporation process, re-compression and re-use of the steam/vapour produced from the liquor itself, is used as the heat source to maintain the evaporation process.

All A.H. Lundberg Systems concentrators with mechanical vapour re-compression have high efficiency mist eliminators in each vapour body, assuring high purity condensate is achieved from the condensed steam and valuable or destructive salts are not carried over in the vapour phase. Where necessary, for highly foaming liquids, external vapour washers are available, integrated into the vapour re-compression system.

Flooded Forced Circulation Evaporators (Crystallizers)

A.H. Lundberg Systems' preferred technology for crystallizing solids from brines is "Flooded Forced Circulation". This technology utilizes separate vessels for the heater body and vapour head. Brine circulation is forced through the tube side of a heater with the brine in the heater kept under a back pressure to suppress boiling. The superheated brine then flows to a vapour head, allowing the recovery of additional flashed vapour.

The separate vessels for the vapour head and heater permits easy access to the heater tubing through the two channel covers if mechanical cleaning is required. A heater may be mounted vertically or horizontally depending upon space constraints.

High efficiency chevron type mist eliminators are used in the vapour heads to assure high purity condensate is recovered and chemical concentration is maximized into the brine.
